U16 Girls, Bristol Storm 27 - 59 Bucks Hornets

U13 Boys, Reading Rockets 43 - 49 Bucks Hornets

————————————————————

On Saturday The U18 Men recorded another good win against Oxford Brookes. Once the Hornets had settled into the game and started to increase the tempo they were able to control and dominate the possession and play with them taking a 20 point lead 8 mins into the 2nd quarter. Oxford to their credit hit back with 11 points in the last 2 minutes of the half as the Hornets became complacent in their defence to ensure that at half time there remained only an 11 point advantage. In the 3rd quarter the Hornets came out more focused with the aim of puuting the game out of sight. With Joe hitting 4 3s the Hornets went into the last quarter with a 26 point lead. Further pressure under the Oxford basket and 3s continuing to fall from the younger Hornets players wrapped-up a convincing 87-50 win. The win takes the Hornets to the top of the East Conference.

The U16 Boys just missed out on a win against MK Lions. A close game throughout saw the Hornets take a 22-20 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, but poor defensive rebounding allowed MK Lions to retake the lead at the start of the 2nd quarter and a 5 point lead at the turn. The Hornets boys started the 2nd half much more focused, pulling the game back to within 1 point at the end of the 3rd quarter. The game remained within a couple of the points for the majority of the 4th quarter as shots were traded. Again though poor defensive play kept allowing MK Lions easy baskets. With 90 seconds left to play MK Lions hit 2 baskets in a row giving them a 4 point lead, which the Hornets reduced to 3 points wth about 50 secs left. A 3 from MK Lions meant Hornets had to try and regain possession, but MK Lions remained cool under pressure making 5 out of 6 free throws and taking a narrow victory, which the Hornets will see as an opportunity lost.

The U14 Boys just lost out to Herts Warriors by 3 points in a game that they know they should have won. Although the Hornets won 3 out of the 4 quarters played, the Hornets’ game was marred by a low shooting % throughout the whole game, and especially in the 3rd quarter that saw the game slip from their grasp as they made less than 20% of their shots and lost the quarter 5-21 that put them 12 points behind. A spirited fightback in the last quarter brought the Hornetsback to 47-47 with 3 mins left to play. With Warriors edging a 3 pont lead in the last minute, Hornets couldn’t make any of their 4 free throws in the last few seconds to take the win, losing 50-53.

The U13 Boys travelled to Reading on Sunday, winning 43 – 49. The U16s Girls travelled to Bristol and came away with a resounding victory 27 – 59 and moves them into 2nd place in their league.

U13 Boys, Bucks Hornets 78 – 45 Northants Thunder

U16 Boys, Ipswich Tomcats 73 - 75 Bucks Hornets (Sun)

U18 Men, Southend Swifts 60- 78 Bucks Hornets

Back to full strength the 13s put on an excellent display Northants had only lost 2 games previously, so to beat them by 30 points was really great to see. A true team performance with 4 players having 10 points or more and great defensive play.

After 2 narrow defeats, the U16 Girls were back to winning ways with a decisive win against Gloster Jets and their biggest winning victory so far this season. This was followed by a much closer 4 point win over Nottingham Wildcats on Sunday at the Hgh School. This brace of victories this weekend was down to an excellent 1st quarter over the Wildcats 19-4 which the Wildcats could not overturn, and puts the Hornets girls in 3rd place in the league. The Girls now have 3 out of 4 of their remaining games away from home, so it is important they maintain their focus and continue the excellent progress they have made this season.

The U18 Men travelled to Southend who encounted a harder game than expected but came out winners by 18 points. The win put the Hornets in 3rd place in the league, with a very tight end to the season with all the top 3 teams playing other in the last 3 weeks of the season in March with all 3 top places up for grabs.

The u16 Boys were hosted by Ipswich on Sunday. A much closer game that the 20 point win when they met at AGS in November, much the Hornets came away with a narrow 2 point victory. The win keeps the Hornets in 4th place in the Southern Premiership with a game in hand.

That gives the Hornets 5 wins from 5 this weekend. Well done to you all.

U16 Girls, Northants Lightning 48 – 44 Bucks Hornets

U13 Boys, Herts Warriors 35 - 79 Bucks Hornets

The U18 Men Hosted Ipswich Tomcats on Saturday. Ipswich started brightly with 2 successive 3-pointers before the Hornets started to settle into their stride. The Hornets were very much in control throughout the whole game, being able to score quite freely, with Connor hitting at least 7 dunks. The Ipswich shooters were on form with 6 3-pointers (from 6) in the 1st half, ensure that they remained close to the Hornets. Once the Hornets had stepped-up their defence to cut out the shooters the score quickly increased to a 57 -36 at half time. Good fast movement of both ball and players around the key and and on fast breaks allowed the Hornets to maintain control of the game and extend their lead. The Tomcats put on a good display, but unfortunately came up against the Hornets in no mood to settle for anuthing but a commanding win (106 – 73).

The U16 Boys continued the high scoring as they hosted Worthing Thunder. A commanding display was further re-inforced with 14 from 16 free throws in the first half and 7 3-pointers. A commanding 38-7 2nd quater gave the Hornets a 69 -26 lead at half time. The 2nd half continued in much the same as the 1st half and saw Tom Edwards debut for the team in the 4th quarter with 4 points and a confident display. A very good all round display allowed the Hornets to achieve an emphatic 114 – 49 win.

The 16 Girls narrowly lossed out to Northants Lightning 48-44. Again though it was the 1st quarter that saw the Hornets girls drop behind (this time by 5 points), which was their downfall. The girls completed equally for the remainder of the game and showed the big improvements they have made this season.
