Wonderful news for all at Bucks Hornets!

At the recent U15 Regional Development Tournament that was held in Sheffield on 26th & 27th September – where Regional teams from all over the country compete against each other – Ciara Belsham was selected for the Women’s National U16 Squad and both KiyloSologbade and Ella Messetter were selected for the National U15 Development Squad.

All three girls are pupils at Aylesbury High School, play for the Hornets U16 National League team and also the Southern Regional team.

Last year the girls played for the Hornets U14 NL team that reached the England Basketball national playoffs stage and were also members of AHS team that won the U14 English Schools Basketball Championships retaining their National title for a second year.

Coach Jenner reflected on their achievements  –

“These girls fully deserve this recognition. They have worked hard on developing their individual and team games – not just physically but also mentally. To be a champion you need to step up and stand out from the rest. They are shining examples to younger players of what can be achieved if you want it badly enough.

All these girls started playing basketball at secondary school and 6ft 1in Ciara didn’t start until she was nearly 13.

Ciara has developed an awesome defensive game and dominates in defensive rebounds and rejections,

Kiylo has an amazing transition game and is unstoppable when drivingthrough the lane

– and last but not least Ella, who was awarded player of the tournament in the English Schools finals, has incredible ball handling and 3 point shooting skills.

And guess what – we have some 11 and 12 year olds that are coming through who have the potential to do just as well as Ella, Kiylo and Ciara.

It is all about attitude. Get it right and you too can become a champion.”
